BOOK AVAILABLE: Totem Studies - The Sketches, Paintings and Sculptures of Fred H. Griffin I incorporate Northwest Indian symbols into a great deal of my painting as an expression of my own life-long and continuing enthusiasm for the Northwest. The totem signs, which I incorporate and sometimes use to build a painting, immediately identify the Northwest coast and also represent a human element. Totem symbols echo spirit images from a past when for only a short period, a very small island in time, a tribe of people achieved a high degree of design refinement in expressing their ideas. |
